About our Epidemiology and Antibiotic Stewardship Programs

ID CARE's Epidemiology and Infection Control program implements strategies proven to minimize or negate healthcare associated infections (HAI's) in a variety of clinical settings including but not limited to hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory surgery centers and rehabilitation facilities. ID Care identifies, investigates, registers and evaluates communicable, reportable, and emerging diseases and conditions through four specific core activities: Infection Prevention, Antibiotic Stewardship, Microbiology Laboratory Consultation/Oversight and Healthcare Worker Protection. To learn more about our customized healthcare epidemiology programs, please contact Dr. Ronald Nahass at 908-281-0221.

Our Team provides comprehensive programs that focus on:

  • Reducing or eliminating Healthcare Associate Infections (HAI) for patients to help control costs, improve patient safety, care quality, and patient satisfaction
  • Assuring antimicrobials are optimized consistent with national standards for Antimicrobial Stewardships– the right drug with the narrowest spectrum for the appropriate duration of therapy
  • Setting guidelines on the proper use of microbiology laboratory tests to limit false, misleading or incorrect results that lead to inappropriate treatment
  • Healthcare Workers Protection for preventable diseases such as blood borne pathogens (HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Whooping Cough, Tuberculosis and Influenza) through actionable plans for vaccination and needle stick and body fluid exposure reduction
  • Reviewing, approving and guiding revision of all infection prevention related policies and procedures
  • Overseeing facility outbreaks
  • Directing, reviewing, collecting and reporting critical data and information needed for institutional and oversight purposes (The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Department of Health, etc.)
  • Supporting activities for bioterrorism preparedness and public health's response to natural disaster
  • Providing expert content support for all survey and licensing agencies

The ID CARE team includes:

  • Board certified infectious disease physicians
  • Specialized certified infection control clinicians as needed
  • Administrative and support staff

The ID Care Epidemiology Program Brings Real Value

  • Demonstrated dramatic savings by reducing healthcare associated infections in numerous hospitals
  • Implemented MRSA controlling program in an ICU, resulting in $500,000 savings to the institution and greatly reduced risk of death
  • Specialized knowledge of healthcare epidemiology, microbiology and transmission of infectious diseases and biostatistics
  • Problem identification, data collection and analysis, intervention through changes in policies and procedures, and ongoing data collection to monitor success
  • Reduction in the incidence of catheter associated urinary tract infections and secondary bacteremias, hospital-acquired pneumonias, surgical site infections and primary bacteremias in patients at high risk for these infections
  • Antibiotic stewardship programs implemented by ID Care were responsible for significantly lowering the cost per patient, per day, for antibiotic therapy
  • Recognized leaders in health care epidemiology, infection control and antibiotic stewardship
  • Reductions in test utilization for microbiology services
